Moving is a major life moment, filled with many emotions, big changes and potentially unexpected costs. Luckily, there are several ways to make it a simpler and more manageable feat. At Daniel’s, we are dedicated to making the moving process as easy and stress-free for our clients. We put together a list of three moving hacks to save you money and to decrease stress.
Pick a Strategic Move Date
This is a huge moving hack to save money! Moving during the summer is notoriously the most expensive option, as it’s the most popular time to move to a new home. If possible, plan to move during the off season for cheaper rates and an all-around easier process. If you are moving long distance, this could mean some serious cash saved for moving in a different season.
Weekends and holidays are also more expensive. Make sure to ask your mover about the price differences if you have flexibility during the week.
Purge and Cleanse
Moving is a great time to realize how much stuff you have. Take this time to get rid of things you don’t use anymore. When it comes to purging, one moving hack is to think of the cost difference between buying it at your new location or taking it with you. If it is a piece of furniture from Ikea that was inexpensive and has some significant weight, it is most likely a better deal to buy it when you get to your new location.
If you have items that you are leaving behind and are still in good condition, consider selling things on apps like LetGo, Poshmark, or using Facebook Marketplace. Otherwise, consider donating items to local charities or Goodwill.
Pack Clothes Strategically
Clothes take up a lot of room, especially when it comes to bulky items like coats and sweaters. Consider using the “rolling” method where you roll clothes into cylinders instead of folding your garments when packing them. Another space-saving idea is to use the vacuum seal bags for larger garments and linens like coats and comforters in order to compress them and to save room. For a time saving moving hack, leave your clothing in dressers. Most moving companies will shrink wrap the dressers and your clothing items will be stored safely inside.
Moving can be complicated and exhausting, but a big change is also exciting. Hopefully our three moving hacks will help make the process less stressful. If you have any questions on our moving services or would like to talk to moving coordinator, please contact us today!
